PENNIES FROM HEAVENe

One thing about being young is you don’t know all the things that you think you know! I was studying and learning right along with Chris on systematic theology stuff. Raking in the knowledge to my brain. Loving you every minute. But God had other plans for my brain.

I was told by my cardiologist, Dr. White, and I had to be in bed down for one year. I could not lift my toddler children. I could not stand to cook dinner in my kitchen. I was supposed to be really down for a year. You don’t miss around with heart failure Dr. White told me. Of course, that meant that Chris had to be Mr. Mom! That movie had just come out, I think that year. Oddly enough, Chris did not think it was funny. I remember one night when Chris was fixing spaghetti for the little toddlers and they were sitting at the dinner table. Little John was sitting in his highchair. When all at once he decided, as toddlers will do, to pick up the spaghetti and meatballs bowl and dump it on his head. All at once I heard a blood curdling scream coming from the kitchen. I was scared somebody was hurt. No it was just Chris who had had absolutely enough. The spaghetti was everywhere. But most of it was on little John’s head. Some weeks later Chris found a similar picture at a store. He had it on his desk for a long time)

God kept supplying our needs. Of course I couldn’t work. Often it was miraculous! Now from one day to the next bills would be paid by insurance, refunds and other ways, but one thing I do know, prayer had a great part in it. At least three different times doctors sent us refunds! It bordered on the on absurd. It was so amazing. I started calling the mailbox “The Happy Box” because I never know how God was going to supply our needs. Chris enjoyed going to the mailbox. And he still does. but it was just the beginning of our learning how God answers prayer. Our church was praying we had people praying as we do now all over the world. as the Bible says, “My God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Phillipians 4:19 You see, we often read these words and think they are just words. . . they are THE WORD OF GOD. They mean what they say. I was just beginning to understand that amazing promise! So much more was to come! We often treat God’s Word as a theological exercise, just a devotional, or part of a Sunday School lesson. God is not joking! He will supply all our needs.

God was not only teaching me about prayer, He wanted me to learn the original, Biblical languages, Greek and Hebrew. I just wanted to teach the kids. But I was bored to tears. Sooo. . . Chris enrolled me in first semester Koine Greek. What I didn’t know was that I had the hardest professor in the country. No shortcuts at all allowed! I aced it! Chris was so proud! Now that was also about obedience. I had to do what God was leading me to do no matter how soon do. I have to say I enjoyed taking creek this very stimulating and I needed it.

there were so many things during that time that God was shuffling me into without my really knowing why. Chuck window had a wonderful saying around that time. He said never ask why when you’re in the middle of a disaster. I didn’t quite understand it at the time. But asking why when you’re in the middle of disaster will get you nowhere. You’re not ready for it I wasn’t ready for it, I didn’t understand why it had to happen, I didn’t understand what God was doing. But I didn’t have to you don’t have to always have to do is rest in God’s omniscient and omnipresent and omnipotent wonder. Perhaps the most important part of God is his love. We must understand that loves us so much that he gave his only Son as a present as a rescue to rescue us from certain destruction. John 3:16 God loved us and we knew us before time began, before he created universe, before I existed, before you existed. But we existed in the mind and the heart of our loving God!

Ephesians 12:3-6

Ohhh. . . wait! He just did it again. I mean right now today. We were short on money for a Medicare expense. Very short. And all at once we get a phone call. It’s just the amount that we need and the check will be in the mail. LOL. Oh we have an awesome God!
